GOSPEL MUSIC
Where words fail, music speaks. The birth
of gospel music came from the african American spirituals of the south in the
mid to late 19th centurity. African slaves brought with theme rich musical
heritage and part of that was a call and response style singing.
Gospel music is, therefore,the
incorporation of teaching into this style of spiritual singing. The main aim
and final end all music should be none other than for the glory of God and the
refreshment of the soul.
In all my music experience,I have learnt that to
impact a listener, one should not complete for a listener attention. Mediocrity
does not got attention. Gospel artist should strive to entertain their target
audience, but rather look forward to holding their listeners accountable to
participate in worship. This can only be achieved by consulting and sometimes
involving scripture in singing.
A good example of a bibilical evidence
that music is powerful (magical) is the story of Elisha (2 kings 3:14,15) I
always believe that music is instrument that open the heavens. When gospel is
sung, with faith, God is lifted and is pleased. This is why I believe also that
music has miraculous healing power. It has the ability to take people out of
themselves for a few hours.
I am amazed how an artist sums up
emotions and exactly how you feel in minutes and manage to impact to you the
rest of your life. This is evident in how funny a melody sound like a memory.
If during a workout ,you turn workout to time with Jesus by listening to
awesome worship music ,how then would not remember a song that draws you closer
to God. I strongly believe that gospel music can change people.
It is music that stirs,my heart,it is
music that makes me whole,it music that lets me dance and it is music that
speaks when words cannot.
